A joyful way of life that is believed of by many Americans as something that can be obtained by anybody in the United States especially by working hard and being successful This is the definition of what many people in the United States refer to as the “American dream.” They felt that they were living the American dream since they had successful careers, a great house, two children, and lots of money.

What is the new American Dream?

The New American Dreams Platform and Campaign is a proactive policy framework that organizations can utilize to advance federal, state, and local policies and campaigns concerning integration-related topics such as citizenship, education, health, refugee resettlement, access to justice, and economic inclusion, and to engage with candidates for political office and elected officials.

The New American Dreams Platform was initially developed by NPNA in the year 2015 with the intention of amplifying the voices of our organizations and our immigrant communities on topics relating to integration.
Because of this, we were able to go forward with the first federal immigrant integration strategy ever developed by local communities.

We were successful in getting presidential contenders Hillary Clinton, Martin O’Malley, and Bernie Sanders to embrace portions of the program. Bernie Sanders was more reluctant to do so. The National Immigrant Integration Conference (NIIC) was attended by all three candidates, and each candidate gave a speech related to the New American Dreams Platform.

In 2018, NPNA revised the platform in order to more accurately reflect the present political environment as well as the extraordinary problems that our communities are up against. Elements of the platform were finally chosen for use in elections for state and municipal offices, offered to candidates for the presidency, and utilized as a guiding text for the National Independent Independent Commission (NIIC).

This working document was published in September 2018 as an aspirational vision of what full justice, equality, and respect for human rights would look like if implemented for all, including the nation’s diverse immigrant and refugee communities. We are advocating for a society that is welcoming and inclusive, full citizenship for all people, America as a refuge, English as a gateway language, the construction of our shared prosperity, quality education, a healthy America, access to justice, and a society that values diversity.
